Snowy Evening
"Dean, where are you? We've been waiting for nearly an hour."
You can't help overhearing the conversation despite the wind howling outside. You would never have believed that anyone could find a hotel this far up the mountain, but Sam had been right. And if he was right about this, he was probably right about the ghost too. You resolve not to think about that. Not right now.
"Bullshit, you can't drive in the snow," Sam hisses and you pretend to check the time on the big clock in the corner.
It looks like Dean's ditching and you have a feeling that you know why. He's been playing matchmaker between you and Sam since they took your case. You aren't exactly complaining because Sam's all the things you tend to go for. Tall, smart, and completely adorable. Unfortunately, he doesn't seem as into the idea as his brother is. Or at least he hasn't made a move, despite the long looks he sends your way.
"You know what, Dean? Bite me."
He disconnects the call and gives you a half smile. "Dean's, uh, not gonna make it."
You look out at the window as the wind really starts to howl. Snow briefly whites out the view. It's turning out to be quite a storm. "He might actually be stuck."
"He's not," Sam says grimly. "But we might be if this keeps up."
He glances at the bed and then looks away. You're sure you saw it this time...a spark of interest. Snowed in with Sam Winchester...the shiver that races through you has nothing to do with the cold.
"If you want to go to bed--" he begins, but he stops when the lights flicker.
Then they go out. You catch your breath, frozen to the spot. He must be able to see in the dark because seconds later you feel his hands on your arms as he draws your back against his chest, holding you protectively. Your heart only has time for one stutter beat before a backup generator somewhere kicks on. A few lights come back on. You stay where you are because you like the way his body feels against yours. Nothing but lean strength. He doesn't move away either. If anything, you'd swear you feel his grip tighten.
"I'll build us a fire," he says after a few moments. "I don't know if the heat is gonna come back on."
You pull a few extra blankets out of the dresser and drape them over the bed. The room is warming a little as Sam finishes with the fire, but it's not enough to keep you from shivering. Sam pulls the blankets down and gestures to the bed.
"Go ahead."
"What about you?"
He shrugs. "I'll be okay."
"Yeah, and we'll both be warmer if you get in bed with me," you said matter of factly, patting the bed beside you.
He barely hesitates. Either he's into you or he's a lot colder than he'd looked. You both lie there stiffly for a few moments and then you roll over and he opens his arms. You snuggle in, pressing your face against his chest. He rests his chin on your head.
"It wouldn't be so bad, being snowed in with you," you whisper.
His arms tighten around you and you can hear that he's smiling as he answers. "I'm sure we could keep each other busy."
You're sure too. But right now...when you're cozy against him and finally getting warm, feeling his breath deepen as he falls into a well-deserved sleep, you don't want anything more than to be where you are.
